Integrated Health and Rights

Empowering adolescent girls and teenage mothers to live free from violence, discrimination, and preventable health risks.

Our Goal

To achieve a future where adolescent girls and teenage mothers live free from violence, discrimination, and preventable health risks.

The Challenge

Trans-Nzoia County faces significant challenges related to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), and Mental Health. These issues disproportionately affect adolescent girls and teenage mothers, limiting their potential and well-being.

  • Over 45% of women and girls in Kenya have experienced some form of GBV, with rural areas like Trans-Nzoia reporting higher cases due to economic dependency, cultural norms, and weak legal enforcement.
  • Teenage pregnancies remain high, exceeding 20% in some areas, further limiting girls' education and economic potential.
  • Access to SRHR services remains inadequate, with adolescent girls and young mothers facing barriers such as stigma, lack of education, and poor healthcare infrastructure.
  • Mental health issues are rising in rural Kenya, exacerbated by trauma from GBV, early pregnancies, and economic hardships.
  • With fewer than five mental health professionals per 100,000 people, there is a dire need for community-based interventions to provide psychosocial support.
